Stringin' the Blues (2006):
Introduce your orchestra to swing with this innovative blues piece by jazz violinist and composer Martin Norgaard. Show off members of your orchestra in a solo section that features individual student improvisations or performances of the included sample solo (provided for all instruments along with a basic improvisation guide). The use of chromatics is a perfect vehicle for reinforcing left-hand flexibility and intonation. This piece is a great way to expose students to alternative styles.
